    Description

This Listing is for ONE NEW Sheet of 10
    Pacific Coral Reef
    37¢ Stamps from 2004.
Mint. MNH. No flaws. From a Smoke-free and Pet-free Environment.
On January 2, 2004, the U.S. Postal Service issued this sheet of
    Pacific Coral Reef
self-adhesive 37¢ stamps in Honolulu, HI - the
    6th issuance in the
    Nature of America
series of educational stamps to promote appreciation for the beauty of 12 different North American ecosystems. These large sheets (9.2" x 6.7")
    were designed by Ethel Kessler
of Bethesda, MD, and illustrated by artist John D. Dawson of Hilo, HI
    .
Each sheet consists of a large panoramic image of a U.S. geographical region, with the region’s flora and fauna clearly visible. Ten stamps were die cut on to the design, each composing one or more species indigenous to the depicted ecosystem. The back of the sheet has a brief descriptive text, accompanied by a graphic outline of the stamp images. The flora and fauna depicted are identified and labelled
with both their common and Latin names.
    The
    Pacific Coral Reefs
can stretch for miles in the clear, shallow waters of the tropics and subtropics - protecting the shores of nearby landmasses from wave-induced erosion, while providing food and shelter for countless creatures.
The artwork on this sheet depicts a typical coral reef near the
    US territory of
Guam - in the western Pacific Ocean, and includes 27 different animal and plant species native to this region. T
he 10 die cut stamps on this sheet include: the Emperor Angelfish, Blue Coral and Mound Coral; Pink Anemonefish and Magnificent Sea Anemone; Humphead Wrasse; Black-spotted Puffer, Threadfin Butterflyfish and Staghorn Coral; Snowflake Moray Eel and Spanish Dancer; Lionfish; Triton's Trumpet; Bumphead Parrotfish; Hawksbill Turtle and Palette Surgeonfish; and Oriental Sweetlips, Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse and Mushroom Coral.
