Description
It is a Japanese military officer's sword from the Meiji period, Kyu-Gunto model 1877.An interesting fact and a rarity is that the 1877 model uses a blade made in the MUROMASCHI period and is signed with the name of the blacksmith;
TSUGOHIRO made around 1550.
The blade is old polished, shows minor scratches but is free from rust, stains and in good condition.
The tempering line is wavy, kogunome temperament and deep temperament at the end.
Forged grain is tight, no holes, no blisters and no forging missing.
There are no bends, scratches, cracks and the cutting edge is sharp.
Steel scabbard, nickel plated
, in good condition.
The handle is tight fit, the brass wire wrap is not cut, not loose and in good condition.
The lock mechanism works fine.
The sword was the property of an officer of princely origin, as evidenced by the ancestral mark of the MON clans;
AKIMOTO, ODA and ARIMA, located on the handle.
