This is one gorgeous Jaguar E-Type with reportedly fewer than 50,000 miles on it! Made in February 1973 in Coventry, England, the previous owner of this beautiful cat acquired it in British Columbia, Canada after a previous owner reportedly found it in an Arizona desert in 2007.  HE has lovingly cared for this Jag for the past 12 years and did an engine out refurbishment.
Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the E-Type as an icon of the motoring world. The car's claimed 150 mph top speed, sub-seven-second 0 to 60 mph acceleration, monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering and independent front and rear suspension distinguished the car and spurred industry-wide changes.
Dressed in Silver Gray, the car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent order with minor blemishes. The car’s windows, including the rear window with a defroster grid, and lights are in very good order while the body is solid and straight; the engine bay extremely tidy, the battery looks good, the cargo area is in very good condition. The car’s chrome bumpers, complete with front overriders, are also in very good condition.
The car’s engine was removed during the winter of 2016-2017 to allow engine bay repainting plus cooling, electrical and exhaust system work. The electric cooling fans have been modified to include an override direct power switch in case a thermal switch or relay goes bad.
The E-Type was based on Jaguar's D-Type racing car, which had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three consecutive years beginning 1955 and employed what was, for the early 1960s, a novel racing design principle: a front subframe carrying the engine, front suspension and front bodywork bolted directly to the body tub. No ladder frame chassis, common at the time, was needed and the first cars weighed only 2,900 pounds.
This car rides on Hankook Mileage Plus whitewall radials, size 205/70R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted to a wire wheel with earless knockoff nuts. The tires have good tread depth and are in very good order, as are the wheels. There is a matching spare tire and wire wheel under the upholstered cargo floor.
Under the huge, front-hinged hood is Jaguar’s famous 5.3L V-12 engine with four side draft Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and breathing through quad tail pipes. The engine bay and front suspension are very accessible in this arrangement. The 5.3-liter version had an oversquare bore x stroke 3.54 in × 2.76 in. Right from the start of production in 1971, the V-12 engine had Lucas OPUS electronic ignition. Backing this motor is a Borg-Warner M12 three-speed automatic transmission and a 3.54:1 rear end.
Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes and independent front and rear suspension. Inside, the car is done in rich French Blue with black trim. The Connolly leather seats are in overall good condition, with some blemishes visible in the rear seat. The complimenting Wilton Wool carpeting looks great. The neutral headliner is in good, original order while the black, three-spoke steering wheel, which is trimmed in leather and shows in good, original order. The black, padded instrument panel contains Smiths gauges and is in very good shape. The center console and console-mounted shift lever are in satisfactory order. A Kraco AM/FM stereo with cassette deck is forward of the shifter.
For the third series, the short wheelbase FHC body style was discontinued, leaving a convertible and 2+2 coupé. The newly used longer wheelbase now offered significantly more room in all directions. The Series III is easily identifiable by the large cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches, wider tires, four exhaust tips and a badge on the rear that proclaims it to be a V-12. Cars for the US market were fitted with large projecting rubber bumper over-riders (in 1973 these were on front) to meet local five mph impact regulations but those on European models were considerably smaller. US models also have side indicator repeats on the front wings.
The Jaguar factory claimed that fitting a set of Jaguar XJ-12 saloon steel-braced radial-ply tires to a V-12 E-Type raised the top speed by as much as eight mph. The production car was fitted with textile-braced radial ply tires. This fact was reported by the editor of Motor magazine in the long-term test of his E-Type edition dated 4 August 1973, who ran a V-12 fixed head for a while. On its release in March 1961, Enzo Ferrari called it “the most beautiful car ever made.” In 2004, Sports Car International magazine placed the E-Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s. In March 2008, the Jaguar E-Type ranked first in The Daily Telegraph online list of the World's “100 most beautiful cars” of all time. Outside automotive circles, the E-type received prominent placement in Diabolik comic series, Austin Powers films and the television series Mad Men.
Documentation includes a copy of Jaguar World E-Type Restoration Guide Series I and II, Jaguar E-Type Series III repair operations manual, many color photos, a thumb drive of related file and partial service records. Competition to this Jaguar 2+2 in 1973 included AMC’s Javelin, Chevrolet’s Camaro, Dodge’s Challenger, Ford’s Mustang, Mercury’s Cougar, Nissan’s 260Z 2+2, Plymouth’s Barracuda, Pontiac’s Firebird and Porsche’s 911.
